The Honorable Niki Tsongas
2229 Rayburn House Office Building
Washington DC 20515

Dear Representative Tsongas,

We are writing to thank you for your vote in the U.S. House of Representatives to override a Presidential veto.  The Reauthorization of the State Children’s Insurance Program (SCHIP), H.R. 976, would have provided health care to over 4 million American children.

We urge you to review the new version of the SCHIP reauthorization (H.R. 3963) and work with your Democratic colleagues to pass this much needed legislation and provide health coverage for low income children.

Beginning with President Nixon’s new health strategy, we have seen the United States ranking for health systems by the World Health Organization steadily decline, both in the areas of infant mortality and life expectancy.  Your continued support of better health care is essential.
Of course Universal Health Care is our goal.  According to the Institute of Medicine, "lack of health insurance causes roughly 18,000 unnecessary deaths every year in the United States. Although America leads the world in spending on health care, it is the only wealthy, industrialized nation that does not ensure that all citizens have coverage.” That correlates into over 100,000 unnecessary deaths since 9/11.  We urge you to support of H.R. 676, “Expanded and Improved Medicare for All.” We believe a healthier population will benefit us all and that this bill matches your commitment for expanding health care coverage to all Americans.

Thank you again.  We look forward to working with you in the future.

Sincerely
